Boston Celtics fans received the shock of a lifetime on Sunday when several of them saw activity from one of the late Bill Russell’s social media accounts.
Russell’s account on X posted a three-word message just minutes after the start of Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Dallas Mavericks at TD Garden in Boston, Mass.
“LET [sic] GO CELTICS!!” the post read.
The post understandably perplexed some of Russell’s nearly 200,000 followers on X given that the Celtics icon died in July 2022.

The mystery went on for a few hours before the account made a follow-up post after Game 2. The initial post was apparently made by Russell’s widow Jeannine Russell.
“To everyone who has reached out to this post. This is Bill’s wife. Please stay tuned for some exciting announcements on Building my husband’s legacy, and other amazing projects. Another great win tonight for the [Celtics] Brown or Holiday #BillRussellMVPFinalsAward,” the follow-up post read.

Russell is best known for having the most championship rings in history after leading Boston to its first 11 titles in 12 years from 1957 to 1969.
Following a solid 105-98 win in Game 2, the modern-day Celtics are just two games away from raising up championship banner No. 18.
