Jerry Jones is not happy in the wake of his team’s latest embarrassing loss, and the Dallas Cowboys owner directed some of that frustration toward his longtime radio partners on Tuesday.
Jones makes regular appearances on the “Shan and RJ” show with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. The 82-year-old seemed more combative than ever during his weekly interview on Tuesday morning. When asked why the Cowboys did not do more to improve their roster during the offseason, Jones went into an angry rant and essentially threatened to part ways with hosts Shan Shariff and R.J. Choppy for goof.
“This is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job,” Jones said. “I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions. I’m not kidding. You’re not going to figure out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this (NFL) meeting I’m going to today with 32 teams here, you’re geniuses.
“You really think you’re gonna sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I’ve done wrong without going over the rights? Listen, we both know we’re talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I’m very sorry for what happened out there Sunday. I’m sick about what happened Sunday.”
Jones then compared the hosts questioning his offseason decisions to when people were skeptical about him buying the Cowboys for $140 million in 1989. You can read more of the comments:
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan was about as fired up as I’ve ever heard him during one of his weekly radio interviews. He was very defensive when asked about not making more moves in the offseason.

Several Cowboys beat writers noted that Jones was as defensive as they had ever heard him during the interview.
The 3-3 Cowboys are coming off a 47-9 home loss to the Detroit Lions. That was their second humiliating defeat at home this season, as they were also blown out 44-19 by the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 at AT&T Stadium.
It goes without saying that the pressure is mounting in Dallas, and Jones’ combative attitude is a reflection of that. He also gave a fiery response when asked about head coach Mike McCarthy’s job status following Sunday’s game. You can see that video here.
