A 2021 NBA champion is taking a page out of the book of a 2024 NBA champion.
In a feature that ran this week, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN reported that famed NBA skills trainer Drew Hanlen, who is also known as the longtime trainer of Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, has been in Greece working out with a new client. Though Shelburne did not reveal any names, she heavily implied in the piece that Hanlen’s new client is Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
This was confirmed by Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, who reported that Hanlen accompanied several Bucks players on their annual offseason trip to Athens. Antetokounmpo, MarJon Beauchamp, Andre Jackson Jr., and Chris Livingston were amongst the Milwaukee players who worked out there with Hanlen.
A former player for Belmont University, Hanlen is perhaps the best-known trainer in the NBA today. He is highly regarded for his ability as a shooting coach and has worked with several other NBA All-Stars aside from Tatum (including Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Tyrese Haliburton).
While Hanlen has failed to achieve results with certain NBA clients in the past, his success rate is much greater than his failure rate. He is exactly the kind of trainer that Antetokounmpo, a career 28.6 percent three-point shooter who went down to 27.4 percent this season, could conceivably benefit from working with.
