Daniel Jones may soon have a new veteran quarterback breathing down his neck.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports Monday that the New York Giants are working out CJ Beathard this week. The 30-year-old Beathard remains a free agent after getting released by the Jacksonville Jaguars last month.
An ex-third-round pick in 2017 (No. 104 overall), Beathard began his career as a spot starter for the San Francisco 49ers and then transitioned into full-time backup by his third NFL season. Beathard spent the last three years with the Jaguars as the backup to Trevor Lawrence before being released.
The Giants are already pretty loaded in their QB room with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito behind the starter Jones. But Jones continues to struggle for the 1-3 Giants with 881 passing yards and four TDs to three interceptions so far this year. We recently heard that the Giants may have a notable incentive to eventually bench Jones, and the addition of another QB could make that (or perhaps a consolidation trade of the other signal-callers) more realistic.
