Nick Saban and his wife may have given Ole Miss some unexpected motivation on Saturday.
Saban and the rest of ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew give one “Superdog” pick every week, which is an underdog they believe has a chance to pull off an upset or at least cover the gambling spread. On Saturday, Saban picked South Carolina.
South Carolina was a 9.5-point underdog against Ole Miss. Saban said he decided to go with the Gamecocks because his wife, the famous Miss Terry, liked South Carolina’s chances. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin took note of the pick and reacted via X with a broken heart emoji.

Kiffin, who was Saban’s offensive coordinator at Alabama from 2014-2016, had the social media reaction on Saturday night. That was after No. 12 Ole Miss cruised to a 27-3 win over South Carolina. It is unclear if Kiffin saw Saban’s pick before the game, but the coach agreed that it is better for the Rebels to have Saban — or Miss Terry — pick against them.

Kiffin knows from his days working under Saban that having people doubt your team can be a powerful fool. Saban always preferred that to the alternative, which he referred to as “rat poison.” Kiffin has made many rat poison references in the past, so he probably secretly loved that Mr. and Mrs. Saban had Ole Miss on upset alert.
