Stefon Diggs tried to downplay his revenge game against the Buffalo Bills this week, but after the Houston Texans pulled out a last-second win, he finally dropped the act.
The Texans receiver admitted he hadn’t been entirely truthful during the week, when he asserted that his matchup with Buffalo was just another game to him. After Sunday’s 23-20 win, Diggs told reporters that he very much had this game circled on his calendar.
“Honestly, it meant a lot to me,” Diggs said, via Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle. “I held it in all week energy-wise. I tried not to bring it up too much. I had an interview earlier in the week where I just tried to keep it professional, but in the back of my mind it meant a lot to me. I wanted to do more showing than telling.
“I’m not going to sit here and act like it was just regular. It meant a lot to me, and it was reassuring that the guys around me knew it meant a lot to me, even if I didn’t say it. I try to keep it poised and treat every week like it’s the same, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t special.”
Diggs had spent the previous four seasons with the Bills, and there may have been a few hard feelings when he was traded during the offseason. On Sunday, Diggs led all Houston receivers with six catches for 82 yards, making his mark on what was a big game to him. It probably will not be lost on him that he was significantly better statistically than anyone who suited up at wide receiver for the Bills on Sunday, either.
